|
A website from The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) , www.onguardonline.gov, is a great resource for information about “phishing”, identity theft/fraud, online scams, and spam.
“Phishing”: a scam that involves Internet fraud intended to obtain personal information like credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security number, or passwords. OnGuard Online suggest these tips: * If you get an email or pop-up message that asks for personal or financial information, do not reply!! Do not click on the link in the message!! * Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date. *Do not email any personal or financial information. * Review credit card and bank account statements as soon as you receive them to check for unauthorized charges. * Be cautious about opening any attachments or downloading any files from emails.
